NEAR protocol releases Web3 OS
NEAR OS for Web3
NEAR protocol, a decentralized application (DApp), has announced the release of a new blockchain operating system aimed at enhancing user experience on Web3. The system, which was unveiled at the Web3 and innovation festival ETHDenver 2023, provides a common layer for browsing and discovering open web resources.
It works seamlessly with any blockchain or Web2 backend, allowing users to use a single app even when switching between applications or chains. Developers can also benefit from the solutions provided by the system, as it offers decentralized and composable frontends, built-ins such as payments, profiles, and notifications, without requiring any hosting.
NEAR’s co-founder noted that the new blockchain operating system provides developers with a platform and infrastructure for building their apps, similar to how iOS provides developers with a place to showcase their apps in front of billions of users. NEAR protocol, a competitor of Ethereum offering smart contract capabilities and a proof-of-stake blockchain, experienced a 10x growth on key metrics last year, including number of transactions, active monthly wallets, projects onboarded, developers, and money invested within the ecosystem. This growth was attributed to the platform’s user-friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and attractive features for developers.
Apart from NEAR protocol, the co-founder is also involved in the Unchain Fund, a fundraising effort that raised over $9 million in donations in crypto assets to support Ukrainians affected by the war. The funds were used to cover the spin-up time for similar government aid programs, which usually take months to set up their systems. The Unchain Fund also provided weekly payments to women with children who ran away from home and purchased ambulances through the global initiative United24.
